Five Things You Need to Know About Lost's Return
by Shawna Malcom

Josh Holloway and Evangeline Lilly, Lost
Remember? Kate and Sawyer got down to business in the fish-biscuit cage. Big Bad Ben promised to let Dr. Jack leave the island in exchange for some lifesaving surgery. But Jack rediscovered his spine and threatened to let the smug Other die unless Kate was allowed to do what she does best: run. It's been nearly three months since we've gotten Lost. But starting this Wednesday, ABC's eternally trippy hit returns with fresh episodes every! single! week! through May (at the new hour of 10 pm/ET). Here's a sneak peek at what you'll be buzzing about on Thursday mornings. (Stop reading now if spoilers aren't your thing. Seriously.)
1. The Sawyer/Kate/Jack love triangle isn't over yet. Kate seemingly chose the charismatic con man over the honorable doc when she hooked up with Sawyer in the Nov. 8 fall finale, a move that pleased both fans and Sawyer himself (Josh Holloway). "I love working with Evie [Evangeline Lilly]," Holloway says. "She's such a little warrior. She was like, ‘Throw me up against the bars! Do it again!'" He may not get the chance, because the Feb. 7 episode makes it clear that Kate still harbors feelings for Jack as she and Sawyer try to escape the Others. But escape they will. With Kate gone, Jack will grow closer to fellow physician Juliet. In the Feb. 21 episode, he'll also get some flashback passion from guest star Bai Ling, a mysterious woman with a connection to the good doc's bad-boy tattoos. Nevertheless, says executive producer Carlton Cuse, the bond between Kate and Jack "is kind of the ultimate relationship."

2. The Others aren't going anywhere. While some fans have lamented the airtime given to those shady Others since the start of Season 3, producers remain staunchly committed to exploring Lost's new world. In fact, the Feb. 7 premiere focuses on the inscrutable Juliet, the book-club-presiding, let-Ben-die-pleading Other played by Elizabeth Mitchell. Flashbacks reveal Juliet's past, including a sick sister and a decidedly low self-esteem, thanks to a decidedly no-good ex-husband. "Even though Juliet's brilliant, she couldn't see herself that way," Mitchell reveals. "Her identity was tied to the man she was married to, and she wasn't able to be strong on her own." Producers also hint that upcoming episodes will revisit the Others' Wisteria Lane-esque compound. Teases cocreator Damon Lindelof, "Where is that place we saw the Others?" Beats us. But we can reveal that Creepy Eyepatch Guy — who appeared on the Others' TV monitors — will be back. As will villainous Ethan, who died in Season 1: He pops up in Juliet's flashbacks in a way that sheds light on his interest in Claire's baby.

3. You'll see more of the characters you love — and miss. Wondering what's up with Hurley, Sayid, Claire and Locke? They'll all get the flashback treatment by the end of March. Hurley's episode delves into his complicated relationship with his father, played by Cheech Marin, whom Cuse worked with on Nash Bridges. Locke's flashback episode could reveal how he wound up in that wheelchair, while Sayid's is "one that will be enormously satisfying," Cuse says, "because it is a heavy answer-mode episode." Adds Lindelof, "Sayid is asking all the questions that [fans] want answered."

4. Speaking of answers, the producers feel your pain. They've heard the criticism that the show isn't solving enough mysteries. They know many viewers are starting to lose faith that there's a well-thought-out master plan. But they're hopeful that a consistent run of episodes will help alleviate those concerns. "You'll still be like, ‘I wish I got even more out of this episode,'" Lindelof says. "But you'll only have to wait a week to see another one." Producers now view splitting up the season as "a negative" and expect that ABC will run Season 4 straight through, as Fox does with 24. What's more, they're currently in discussions with the network to determine an end point for the show, both for their own creative satisfaction and to assure fans that there will be a resolution. "Having an end point is the right thing," Cuse says, likening the move to J.K. Rowling's announcement that the Harry Potter saga would be wrapped up in seven books. "And we want to announce an end point before the show's lost its relevance, at which point no one will care what the end point is."

5. The body count will get higher. In the Feb. 14 episode, the seemingly psychic Desmond will tell a major character to prepare for the Grim Reaper. (We won't reveal who, but we will say it's not Jack, despite Internet rumors that he's on his way out.) There's also speculation that newcomer Paulo, played by Rodrigo Santoro, may not live to see Season 4, thanks to a cover story Santoro did for the Brazilian Rolling Stone in which he discussed upcoming film commitments in his native country. Producers won't comment, except to say that Paulo and fellow maligned newbie Nikki (Kiele Sanchez) will play a pivotal part in a late-March installment. Says Lindelof, "By the end of that episode, it'll be crystal clear as to what Nikki and Paulo's future on the island will be."

Early life-Career-Personal life-Awards-Filmography

Early life
Lilly was born in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada to a devoutly Christian family.[1] Her father is a home economics teacher, and her mother is a beauty consultant. Lilly also has a younger sister, whom she has described as "the actor in the family." During her childhood, the family did not have a television.[1]

Before leaving the city of Fort Saskatchewan at the age of 10, she attended three elementary schools. She briefly attended Fort Elementary, Rudolph Henning and James Mowat Elementary. During a phone interview with the local paper, The Record, Evangeline was quoted saying, "When I was a kid, the Fort was tiny. I could ride my bike at five years old from one end of town to the other ... To me Fort Saskatchewan holds a lot of really great memories. I just consider it a little happy hideaway." She also recalled a favorite memory saying, "I remember that there was a drunk driver who was wheeling through town. I remember literally the men sending the women and children into the homes. Then they gathered themselves and ran after this truck. They actually jumped into the cab and jumped onto the window and forced the guy to pull over and go to the cop shop."[citation needed]

Lilly served briefly as a foreign missionary and lived in a grass hut in the Philippines at the age of 18. She was offered a missionary post there for two years, an offer she nearly accepted but eventually declined because of her parents' wishes.[2] She founded and ran a world development and human rights committee while studying international relations at the University of British Columbia.[citation needed] She has been a volunteer for children's projects since she was 14.[citation needed] Lilly is a former flight attendant of Air Canada,[citation needed] and speaks French fairly well.[3]

Career
Lilly was discovered on the streets of Kelowna, British Columbia by Ford modeling agency. Although she initially decided to pass on a modeling career, she went ahead and signed with Ford anyway, to help pay for her University of British Columbia tuition and expenses. Despite being signed to Ford Models, she was never actually a fashion model, working instead with their acting branch.[4]

She was previously featured in several LiveLinks Chatline television commercials and on G4's Judgment Day. She appeared uncredited in the 2003 film Freddy vs. Jason as a high-school girl leaning against a locker, and in an episode of Smallville in a pool hall scene. She also had a guest appearance on the ABC supernatural horror series Kingdom Hospital (2004). Lilly's first speaking role was on Lost.[1] She also appeared in the 2003 teenager film The Lizzie McGuire Movie as an (uncredited) Italian police officer.

When Lilly was cast as Kate in Lost, her main concern was acquiring a work visa to enter the United States. With production literally days away and no news about the visa, casting directors were forced to grudgingly begin re-casting the role of Kate. After nearly 20 auditions, Lilly's work visa was approved/cleared but she arrived on set a day late.

Her salary in 2004 for Lost was $80,000 per episode. On the heels of her role in Lost, she was voted one of the Breakout Stars of 2004 by Entertainment Weekly. Although Lilly placed 8th in the FHM "100 Sexiest Women in the World" of 2006 and initially placed 2nd on Maxim's "Hot 100" list of 2005,[5] she slipped to 67th in Maxim's 2006 list. On December 14, 2006, Lilly was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Lead Actress-Drama. Action figures of Lilly's Lost character were released during the holiday season of 2006.[1]

Personal life

Lilly was once married to Canadian hockey player Murray Hone,[6] but is believed to be engaged to her former Lost co-star Dominic Monaghan.[7] Her known nicknames include "Evie" and "Monkey". Her Lost castmates nicknamed her "Monkey" because of her ability to climb trees with ease, a skill which has been incorporated into her character.[8] Her fellow Lost-actor Josh Holloway also calls her 'Freckles', sharing the nickname his on-screen character Sawyer gave her. She is also known on set for her tomboyishness, Christian faith, and her "potty mouth."[9]

Lilly has stated that she "live[s] in a bubble," specifying that she is not familiar with popular culture and does not watch television or own a TV set.[1] She has also said that she would not appear in a nude scene or perform in sexual scenes that she would consider "gratuitous".[1]

On the May 9, 2007 Episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Evangeline Lilly described her deep need to leave her home town after her high school graduation. She did much travelling at this point in her life, moving from town to town approximately every six months. She stated that in each town she took on a persona, for example, she would decide in one town to take on the role of a "nerdy bookworm" and in another she decided to be a ditzy "cheerleader" type and acting as such she would frequently date different men.

Lilly has also used her celebrity status to help promote Just Yell Fire, a video aimed at teaching teenage girls how to defend themselves against rapists. During the summer break between the first and second seasons of Lost, Lilly spent time visiting the poor in Rwanda.[1]

On December 20, 2006, Lilly's house in Kailua, Hawaii was completely destroyed by fire while she was on the Lost set with one of her two roommates, both of whom work as her stand-ins on the show. The second roommate was off-island at the time of the blaze, which occurred on the final day of shooting before the show’s holiday break.[10] The cause of the fire has now been determined as an electrical fault.

Lost stars Evangeline Lilly and News

Friday, 6 Jul 2007

Lost stars Evangeline Lilly and Dominic Monaghan have split up according to a report in a British magazine. A source close to the couple told Look magazine, “being together all the time [on the show] took its toll” and they had been arguing almost constantly since Dominic found out his character was to be killed off.

None of the stars or their representatives have confirmed the split.

Evangeline Lilly to be debut in movies with "Afterwards"

Wednesday, 16 May 2007

Evangeline Lilly, who shot to fame as the hottest chick not yet killed off on 'Lost', will make her feature film debut some time in 2008. She will appear with John Malkovich and Romain Duris in the supernatural thriller Afterwards. The combination French/Canadian production will be directed by Gilles Bourdos, who is presumably French, or else his parents have a weird sense of humor.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the movie is based on Guillaume Musso’s novel “Et après…” My guess is that book is also French. At one point Forest Whitaker was rumored to be getting the role that Romain Duris will play, a workaholic lawyer who meets a mysterious doctor. The doctor (to be played by Malkovich) claims to be able to predict people’s deaths. Lilly will play the lawyer’s wife and will look damn good doing it.

"Lost" to finally end after 3 more seasons

Wednesday, 9 May 2007

Hit castaway show Lost will end after three more seasons, executive producers have confirmed. In January, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse revealed they envisioned the endpoint for Lost around episode 100. However, a new agreement with ABC will bring the total number of episodes to 120. Despite the increase, both Lindelof and Cuse admit setting a three season deadline is "incredibly liberating." Lindelof says, "(It's) like we've been running a marathon and we actually know where the finish line is for the first time." Cuse adds, "(We've had) a road map for the series with all the major mythological milestones and the ending in place for a while. What we didn't know was how long we had to play the story out. By defining the endpoint we can now really map out the rest of the series in confidence. We sort of view Lost as a mosaic. Now there are only 48 more tiles that go into that mosaic, and we're figuring out, along with all the other writers, exactly where they all go." Lindelof wrote the pilot for Lost with fellow executive producer J.J. Abrams, and Cuse joined the series in October 2004.
